"I don't know why I don't come here more often. I always feel so good when I leave!" - Karen, a first mom who became a new member after attending several meetings over the course of a year. |
|
"I've never felt so comfortable in a group of strangers before." - Bryan, a male adoptee attending his first meeting. |

As a birthmother, I searched for years to find my daughter. I joined Adoptees in Search to further my search. I found support, a warm welcome, open hearts and love. Through AIS I found her. My search ended in death and heartache, yet I think of AIS with fondness and gratitude as knowing is much better than not knowing." ~Maggie |

"I have finally found a place to go where I know others will understand what I am feeling and saying, but the best part of AIS is being able to hear from all members of the triad. My experiences with the people there made it possible for me to understand more about my own situation and reunion." ~Tammy |

"When I came to my first AIS meeting, it was for the purpose of learning search techniques - which I got...but I also found something much more valuable: others that shared my everyday adoptive thoughts (What is my heritage? Where did I get my hazel eyes? Where did my love of music come from?); plus, I found that the roller coaster feelings I was experiencing throughout my search/reunion were "normal!" Thank you AIS" ~Candy |

"....I KNEW if I ever showed my face in front of a group of adoptees I would be stoned to death, after being branded with a scarlet A. This fear and poor self-image halted much of my emotional growth. Before I could face my relinquished son upon reunion, I had to be able to face myself as a birthmother... Through birthmother and adoptee camaraderie, and the tremendous support I have gotten from my fellow former "unwed mothers," I was able to enter reunion with the confidence needed to enjoy my son, AND myself, and assure a successful reunion." ~ Michele |
|
"During our time together, I was able to share the grief and joy of my most recent experiences with my (teenage) adopted children and their birth mothers... Living with the adoption experience fills our lives with complexities. Each of us has our own unique path of loss and healing...Through the journey there comes a realization that we are more than what happened to us... and in a way, our loss becomes our gain." ~ Linda |

"AIS means connectedness to others who genuinely share and truly support your adoption related issues." ~Tim |
